With over 20 years of experience teaching music in and out of the school system,
Bethany Borden has the training, experience, and positive energy to help you take your music skills to the next level.
She teaches private voice, guitar, and ukulele lessons to students of all ages.
She also directs the Coastal Community Youth Choir in Hampstead, NC.

Bethany found her love for music early on.
Whether it was hymns in church, 50s and 60s music in the car (thanks to her mom), or listening to her cassette Walkman, she was singing!
In middle school, she took up playing the trumpet and joined the choir.
In high school, life was consumed with marching band and show choir! Singing created a college path for Bethany when she auditioned for and was accepted to the Voice Department at the University of Central Florida.
She received her Bachelors in Music Education in 2003.

Bethany has always loved helping people and working with children, so becoming a music teacher was a natural fit. Currently, she is enjoying teaching privately, directing the youth choir, and most recently, being the vocal director for the Topsail High School Advanced Theater production of Beetlejuice Jr.

Bethany's goal is to find people like her who connect with music in a special way and need guidance and an outlet, whether it be for their singing voice, playing an instrument, performing in theater, or even writing music.

“Music gives a soul to the universe,
wings to the mind,
flight to the imagination
and life to everything.”

When our eldest daughter received a ukulele for her 7th birthday, we thought it would be a fun summer project to get her a few lessons so she could learn to strum a tune. We’re not a musical family — we can’t read sheet music or play an instrument — so we weren’t quite sure where to start. That’s when we found Ms. Bethany through a recommendation in a local Hampstead mom group. From the very first lesson, Bethany made music feel approachable and exciting. She brought so much patience, encouragement, and joy into our home. By the following spring, our daughter had the confidence to perform in her very first ukulele recital — a moment we’ll never forget. Inspired by this journey, we got a keyboard for our middle child and asked Bethany to begin lessons with her too. Now, two years later, both girls are thriving in their music studies. One of the proudest moments for us as parents was watching them perform together — ukulele and keyboard — at the Topsail Annandale Elementary talent show. Even our youngest, who turns six this fall, has started taking a few keyboard lessons with Bethany. It’s pure joy to watch all three of them pick up their instruments and jam together — often choosing to make music over screen time! I’m so incredibly grateful to have been able to give the gift of music to my children. And we truly couldn’t have done it without Bethany’s passion, warmth, and dedication. She has brought a love of music into our home that will stay with our family forever.

Recently, the Coastal Community Youth Choir was featured in the Hampstead Neighbors magazine.
Stephanie Styons, the author of the article, did a great job of capturing the essence of the ensemble as well as the need for the choir in the community.
We are dreaming of having at least 50 singers in the choir this Fall 2025.
